'We're going to give it everything we've got' - North London Hospice Dancing Strictly stars in it to win it
Dressed head to toe in sequins, a pair of hospice workers are “going to give it everything” on the dance floor to impress Dancing Strictly judges in next month’s competition.
Jayne Usher, 24, and Abdulkadir Abdul, 26, will be dressed up to the nines as they go head-to-head with 11 other couples in the dancing competition in aid of North London Hospice.
Taking a break from practising their salsa routine, Ms Usher said: “I’m going to wear my hair big, plenty of sequins and false eye-lashes – we’re going to give it everything we've got to win it.
“There’s going to be loads of hip swaying and spinning. It’s a really fast routine, which will hopefully impress everyone.”
Ms Usher has volunteered at the hospice site in Woodside Avenue since July. Her dancing partner, Mr Abdul, works as a health care assistant at the hospice in Winchmore Hill.
Ms Usher, who lives in New Barnet, said: “I work on the wards giving the patients their meals and chatting to them. My dad was also a patient there three years ago so it’s a place quite close to my heart – this competition is a fun way to raise money for it.”
The pair has at least 22 colleagues, friends and family who will come to cheer them on at the finals, which will be held at Millfield Theatre on Saturday February 9.
Mr Abdul said: “I’m getting a bit nervous now – I’ve never danced before so it’s definitely been a challenge. But I’ve been doing a lot of practising at home so I’m sure we’ll get there. We’re in it to win it.”
But as well as mastering their routine the couple also has to raise at least £500 for the hospice which supports people with life-limited illnesses.
