Hotel staff recorded their names in history after smashing a bizarre world record for the second time.

A team from Brent Cross Holiday Inn joined colleagues at 65 other hotels across the country in breaking the world record for the most number of pillows stuffed into cases in one minute.

Staff of IHG, which owns the hotel chain, last year broke the record with 9,953 across the company.

But on Thursday, groups of kitchen, cleaning and bar staff bettered last year’s efforts with what Guinness has now confirmed was 12,580 stuffed pillows.

Martin Hurley, manager of the Tilling Road hotel, said: “Everyone was elated when we heard we’d broken the record.

“We thought we were in with a good chance but didn’t think we would do as well as we did. It is a memorable day for the staff.

“We don’t know yet if we’re going to do it again next year but either way I’m sure we’ll try something. Maybe curtain pulling or bed making – who knows.

“I wasn’t here last year so it was fantastic to be a full part of it.”
