Plans to demolish KFC in favour of hotel on Apex Corner given green light

Plans to demolish a KFC drive-through and build a four-storey hotel on a busy junction were approved for a second time tonight.

Barnet Borough Council agreed to extend the time limit for Developer Ace Investments to construct the hotel on Apex Corner at the intersection between the A41 and the A1.

Developers were originally given the green light in 2009 but failed to find an operator for the hotel in the last three years, when the planning permission expired.

The building will be four storeys high at its highest point, with 88 bedrooms and basement parking for 56 vehicles.

Some people living in nearby Ellesmere Avenue objected to the plans, claiming a “giant” hotel would increase traffic, noise and litter as well as intrude on their privacy.

Despite their concerns, developers were granted planning permission at tonight’s west area planning committee.

Basement parking for 56 cars, yet they will have 88 rooms! Where do they propose the other potential 30 odd cars are going to park? I don't suppose for 1 minute all the staff will walk or cycle in to work.
Let me guess they will introduce permit parking in the surrounding streets, and then get all that revenue from issuing PCN's to hotel guests not to mention visitor permits etc. You can bet your life it got the go ahead!!!
