A man who was filmed stealing hundreds of pounds from a shop and attempting to burgle a home has been jailed for three years.

Lewis Williams, 39, of no fixed abode, stole £1,400 worth of shelving and helped himself to other items from a store in The Broadway Mill Hill, last June.

In August Williams also broke into a house in Watling Avenue, Edgware, but was caught red-handed by a teenager living there.

As Williams attempted to escape through a window in the kitchen, the teenage boy ran and locked himself in his bedroom and called for help.

Moments later his landlord arrived at the house and filmed Williams with his mobile phone.

Police used CCTV footage from the shop and the mobile phone footage to identify Williams as the person responsible for both offences.

Williams was arrested but denied his guilt – despite being shown the incriminating footage.

He was found guilty at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday February 1.
