A playground in Hampstead Garden Suburb has received a £200,000 makeover following a long-running campaign.
Users of Lyttleton Playing Fields in Kingsley Way launched their appeal to redevelop the site’s rundown playground in 2010.
Adam Bass visits the park regularly with his wife Valerie and their three children, Noah, Samuel and Emma.
Mr Bass, who lives in Barnet, said: “My wife was very unhappy with the state of the playground so I founded a committee to do something about it.
“The finished result is great – the playground is much more popular and has a more diverse range of people going to it. It's been very well received.”
Children can now enjoy apparatus including swings, slides and climbing frames. An amphitheatre has also been built for playgroups and children’s entertainment.
Mr Bass said: “We’re hoping to put on live performances in the park – our first one will hopefully be Romeo and Juliet in May.”
The Lyttleton Playing Fields Committee received money from private donors as well as grants from Biffa Award and Barnet Council in order to achieve their plans.
