Senior Orthodox Jewish Rabbi Chaim Halpern detained in Golders Green sex abuse investigation

A senior rabbi of the Orthodox Jewish community in Golders Green was one of four men arrested yesterday in connection with a sexual assault investigation.

Rabbi Chaim Halpern, 54, is still being questioned this afternoon after he was detained on suspicion of sexual assault and perverting the course of justice.

Metropolitan Police detectives made the arrests as part of an investigation into a major sex abuse scandal within the Orthodox Jewish community.

Three other men, aged 25, 62 and 64, were arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and remain in police custody.

The investigations relate to complaints about a marriage counselling service being run at the Divrei Chaim synagogue in Golders Green.
