Golders Green Orthodox Jewish Rabbi Chaim Halpern and three others released on bail

A senior rabbi and three others arrested over sex abuse allegations have all been released on bail.

Rabbi Chaim Halpern, of the Divrei Chaim Orthodox synagogue in Golders Green, was detained on suspicion of sexual assault and perverting the course of justice on Wednesday.

Three others, aged 25, 62 and 64, were also arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

The arrests were made as part of an investigation into an alleged sex abuse scandal within the Orthodox Jewish community.

Detectives were given an additional 36 hours to question the men on Friday and all four have since been released on bail until March 8.

The investigation was launched following several complaints about a marriage counselling service being run at the Golders Green synagogue.
