Police were called to the flat in Bittacy Hill following reports of a disturbance
A man has been arrested on suspicion of killing his son during a fight at a flat in Mill Hill.
The 57-year-old was arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of the 30-year-old at an address in Bittacy Hill on Saturday night.
Neighbours say they heard fighting at the property before police arrived shortly before 11pm.
Residents of the estate said this morning they are stunned by the man’s death.
Minhaj Choudhury, 53, said: “It is terrible. There is an atmosphere this morning of real shock – no-one knows how or why this has happened.
“We don’t get too much trouble here so it is a shock – it is not that sort of area.”
Police have not yet named the victim and a post mortem is being carried out this afternoon at Finchley Mortuary.
Scotland Yard confirmed its officers were called to reports of a disturbance at the flat, where it is believed the father lived alone.
The son was unconscious when emergency services arrived and was pronounced dead at 11.51pm.
The father was found suffering cuts to his face and neck and was treated by paramedics before his arrest.
Police were given more time to question him this morning and he remains in police custody.
A mother-of-one, who lives on the estate but did not want to be named, said police were questioning neighbours throughout Sunday.
She said: “It is awful. You just don’t think that something like this can happen. It is scary to think someone was killed not far from your own home.”
The front door to the flat was partially boarded up this morning and some police tape remains at the scene.
