Plans to carry out a £1.5million revamp in North Finchley will be unveiled today.
The majority of the money has been allocated from the Mayor of London’s Outer London Fund with £400,000 added to the pot by Barnet Borough Council, and will used to renovate the area as well as introduce apprenticeships for young people.
Improvements will be made to High Street with proposals including a cultural 'hub' for creative workshops such as dance and art, as well as a public events space at Tally Ho Corner and renovation of the Grand Arcade.
The remaining cash will be used to provide apprenticeships for young people and help new and existing businesses.
People are being encouraged to have their say on the plans which will be exhibited from 2pm at artsdepot before Councillor David Longstaff discusses the proposals at 6pm.
Cllr Longstaff said: “We’d love to set up a North Finchley Town Team of people with a vested interest in making the best of their local high street.
“We will be showing people some of the ideas and thoughts for the project so far in the hope of starting a dialogue with local people about what they want to see improved – we want to encourage more people to use the area.”

High Barnet is sinking lower and lower despite what they spent on it from the Boris fund. If shoppers can't pay they don't come. It's that simple.
Councillors pretend that they are ordering new meters but the officer responsible for doing so says he he hasn't been instructed! Just more lies to stall further dissent Traders and their customers are not so stupid!

Until people can park without having to spend longer than they were going to stop negotiating with the current system, everything else will simply be a matter of deck-chair-rearrange
ment, while the band plays Abide With Me and those of us in Steerage rattle the locked gates to the upper decks.

Since then it been down hill. The prominent cafe on the edge of the Church garden was given a facelift, new awning etc. as part of the 'regeneration' project. Money down the drain! It couldn't survive and is now an eyesore.
There is no point tarting up a town if no one can park! Use the money wisely and put the meters back.
