Special waste collection for Passover in Barnet
5:59pm Monday 4th March 2013 in News
By Chris Hewett
A special waste collection service is being run for Jewish people preparing for Passover.
Barnet Council will send its refuse crews along 300 extra routes on March 24 and 25 to collect foods traditionally forbidden in Jewish households during the annual festival.
Observers of the festival remove any trace of fermented grain products, including leavened foods from their house during Passover week.
Anyone who does not live directly along a planned route can organise a personal collection with the council.
To find out where the routes are or to arrange a collection, telephone 0208 359 4600 from March 15 or check your local synagogue.

Apparantly they have been doing it for years?
What a complete waste of EVERYBODIES council tax.
If Jewish folk create more rubbish then THEY should pay to have it disposed.
When celebrating my religious festivals I and my neighbours create extra refuse, do Barnet come round and take it away?
They wont even take any extra sealed up in refuse bags,
Why should Jewish folk have extra and others not .
I hope the Jewish community are paying for these extra collections themselves and not the already hard pressed Barnet counciltax payers .
The Jewish folk should be donating the unwanted food to the needy NOT throwing it away .
Another thing is that it should not be going to landfill at all ,it should be sent for bio recycling.
I just cannot believe the hypocritical attitude of Barnet council, pandering to one religious faith and expecting the WHOLE community to pay for it!
