The first faith school of its kind in the UK will be opened in Brunswick Park after governors successfully bid to occupy a former college.
St Andrew the Apostle School will become the first Greek Orthodox school in the UK when it takes over the empty Barnet College buildings in the North London Business Park, in Brunswick Park Road.
Recently-appointed headteacher Robert Ahearn wrote to parents confirming the lease this week and applications have already been accepted for Year Seven students to be taken on in September.
Building work on the site will initially be limited but the school says it has longer term plans to expand the existing buildings.
Chairman of governors Yiannis Pareas said: "I’m very grateful for the support we’ve received from Barnet Council, the Department for Education and the owners of this site on Brunswick Park Road.
"We’ll continue to work very closely with the council to ensure that the school serves the needs of the local community as part of the family of schools in Barnet."
