Former Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wife Cherie officially opened a new £3.2million community centre at a Mill Hill synagogue.

The couple were the special guests at the opening of the Ner Orre Community Centre and the Annie and Samuel Levy Hall at Mill Hill United Synagogue, in Parnell Close.

Israeli Ambassador Daniel Tub joined the former Labour leader and his wife at the event on Sunday, for which mezuzahs, religious inscriptions, were attached to the doors to mark the opening.

Rabbi Yitzchak Schochet said: “This is an exciting time for our community. The commitment and generosity of so many enabled this dream to become reality. It all reflects the incredible community spirit in the area.”
