A community party is being held to celebrate the 79th birthday of the Friern Barnet Library tomorrow.

Leaseholders of the now community-run building, in Friern Barnet Road, have organised a blues band to play at the anniversary event.

The library was closed by Barnet Council in April last year but reopened as a public-run facility following a campaign by community groups and squatters that began in September last year.

Anyone is invited to join the celebration, which includes cakes, snacks and drinks, from 1.30pm on Saturday.

The live band will play between 1.30pm and 2.30pm.
