FORMER Prime Minister Baroness Thatcher has died following a stroke this morning.
Stroud MP Neil Carmichael said today: "I was very sad to hear of the news of Baroness Thatcher’s death and I send my sympathies to her family.
"She was a memorable Prime Minister with some significant achievements to her name.
"She made a lasting mark on British political life and placed Britain in a very strong position internationally through the defence of the Falklands and the Cold War."
The 87-year-old was elected as MP for Finchley in 1959 and served as Secretary of State for Education and Science in Edward Heath's government before becoming leader of the Conservative opposition in 1975.
She served as Prime Minister from 1979 to 1990, before becoming a life peer.
