RAMSBOTTOM A’s long domination of the Bolton Table Tennis League is finally over after 12 years at the top.

After winning the Premier Division for a dozen years in succession, they were finally knocked off their perch in a last-day showdown with title rivals Flixton CC.

It could not have been closer with the Manchester side, who went into the last match with a two-point advantage over Ramsbottom, taking the match 5-4. Lois Rosenthall beat Mark Ramsbottom in the final set of the night to end an era for the long-time champions for whom Michael Moir was unbeaten on the night.

Former European champion John Hilton finished the league season at the top of the Premier Division’s win averages, losing only to Moir who was unbeaten for the second season in a row.
