Mill Hill residents have been invited to enjoy the sun and raise money for a local hospice.

The Grade II-listed house Highwood Ash in Highwood Hill is opening its gardens to the public this afternoon in aid of North London Hospice.

The three and a half acre gardens includes a lake and herbaceous borders.

Visitors can stock up on bedding plants and enjoy tea and home-made cakes, with all proceeds going to the hospice.

Penny Gluckstein, 74, who has been cultivating the garden for more than 45 years, founded the Mill Hill support group for the North London Hospice in 1989.

The hospice provides specialist palliative care for people with advanced progressive diseases. The garden is open from 2pm until 5pm today. Entry costs £4 for adults and £1 for children.
