A music teacher who was knocked out of the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent this week says she is determined to pursue her dream of being a singing superstar.

Modupe Obasola won a place in the live semi-finals with her acoustic version of Justin Bieber’s song, Boyfriend but was buzzed out of the contest on Tuesday.

Speaking to the Enfield Independent she said: “I’d always been against going on a reality show because I wanted to do it the old fashioned way, gigging and getting signed. But people kept saying to me I should just go for it, and so I decided to give it a go.”

The 19-year-old used to study at Barnet and Southgate College and currently teaches guitar in Barnet and Enfield.

But being a famous singer is her dream, and in her spare time she can often be found busking on the streets of Camden.

It was this side of Modupe the judges fell in love with at her first audition, but when she appeared on Britain’s Got Talent on Tuesday night she was the first contestant of the night to be buzzed.

Modupe, who lives in Whetstone, performed Justin Bieber’s Beauty and the Beast but towards the end of her act judge Simon Cowell pressed his red button, showing he was less than impressed.

He said: “I did buzz because I just didn’t get this at all. This was very generic, very wannabeish and it didn’t give you any individual personality, it didn’t make you different, it actually made you more dated and I think you’ve been given some bad advice.”

Amanda Holden praised her performance, saying: “It was completely different to what you did before but I actually thought it was brilliant.

"You had real attitude and you can dance and in the words of Louis Walsh, you ‘owned it’. You did a really good job I thought, well done.”

Modupe was knocked out of the semi finals after the public voted to save comedian Jack Carroll and singer-songwriter Gabz.

Speaking to the Enfield Independent she said: “I understand what the judges were saying. I was trying to impress Simon but I don’t think he should have buzzed me – I think it was a bit unfair.

“I love playing my guitar and if I could change what I did I would. What I will say is, it wasn’t my choice to sing that song.”

Modupe is determined to make it into the music industry and has plenty of her own acoustic, soul pop songs she is ready to share with the world.

She said: “Britain’s Got Talent was such an amazing experience and it's a great platform for anyone who is artistic.

“I have more than 100 songs on my guitar – that’s what people like and that’s the real me. I’m going to carry on 100 per cent.”
