Future Tracey Emins and Damien Hirsts will display their creative talents this week during their end of year shows.

Students at Barnet and Southgate College studying Creative Arts will show their skills in photography, art and design during their final year shows at the college’s Wood Street campus.

Jennifer Rodrigues, 19, who lives in Hendon and is studying for a BTEC National Diploma in photography at the Wood Street campus will be showing her work inspired by war and the Holi festival in India.

She said: “I was captivated by the Indian Holi festival where people celebrate by throwing coloured powder paints in the air and all over each other. I also started looking into dark, harrowing images of war and battles.

"These two contrasting themes inspired my final studio and location photography shoots, where a fellow student stood in place whilst bright blue powder paint was thrown in the air and into her face.”

Barnet and Southgate College Principal David Byrne said: “Barnet and Southgate College is extremely proud of all our talented Creative Arts students; they have put together an eclectic, inspirational and very professional show.

“This is testament to the dedication and hard work involved in creating their final year projects. It has also given the students a chance to shine and be part of a team organising a real life modern art exhibition, which they may even one day host themselves.”

The show, which runs from tomorrow until Saturday, will be open to the public from 10 am until 5 pm every day.
