Potters Bar fatality: Police working to identify victim hit by First Capital Connect train at Darkes Lane station
Police officers are working to establish the identity of a man killed by a train at Potters Bar yesterday.
The victim was hit by the 12.11pm First Capital Connect Service between Kings Cross and Welwyn Garden City shortly before 1.30pm.
The train was due to stop at the Darkes Lane station and it is understood the man was on the platform moments before he was hit.
British Transport Police officers say they are not treating the death as suspicious.
Paramedics from the East of England Ambulance Service and officers from Hertfordshire Constabulary attended, but the man was declared dead at the scene.
First Capital Connect says it is providing the driver of the train with support.
A spokesman for the train company said: “We have a comprehensive network of support for our drivers in these circumstances.
“He will be offered time off and we have specialist counsellors who can speak to them before they return as this can be traumatic for those involved.”
A file on the man’s death is currently being prepared for the coroner.
Services were severely disrupted as a result of the incident yesterday between Kings Cross and Stevenage.
