Battle of Britain to be remembered with special event at RAF Hendon
Hendon’s important role in the Battle of Britain will be remembered with a special event.
The Royal Air Force Museum, Grahame Park Way, Hendon, will be holding a re-enactment of the No. 504 Squadron’s heroic intervention in an attack by Hitler’s Luftwaffe.
The live presentation on the weekend of September 14 and 15 will tell the story of how the squadron ‘scrambled’ from Hendon, just in time to intercept the German bombers as they headed towards London.
There will be a special recognition of Sergeant Ray Holmes’ efforts to bring down a plane that was feared to be on a suicide mission to Buckingham Palace.
Visitors will also be able to see authentic aircrafts from both sides of the battle at the event.
The Saturday’s activities will be held from 11.15am to 11pm, including a themed evening with swing dancing, informative lectures and a 1940s Hair and Make Up Class.
Sunday's attractions will include concerts and tours of the museum from 11.15am to 3.30pm.
