'Prolific' burglar Ali Hassan jailed for three years
A “prolific” burglar has been jailed for three years after targeting homes in Finchley.
Ali Hassan, 21, of no fixed abode, tried to force entry through a window at a house in Chessington Avenue in the early hours of May 19.
The owners were in the house at the time and as the alarm on the ground floor sounded, Ali made a quick escape.
But having climbed over a recently white-washed side gate he left white footprints on the window.
Shortly afterwards at approximately 5.40am Ali broke into an empty house in Cavendish Avenue.
He was spotted by a neighbour who called police patrolling nearby streets.
A sniffer dog identified the scent of the burglar in Cavendish Avenue and took officers to a claw hammer discarded near the scene.
Ali was sentenced at Wood Green Court after he was found guilty of one count of burglary and one count of attempted burglary.
DC Yogini Patel from the Barnet Acquisitive Crime Unit said: “I pay tribute to the prompt action by the victims that has resulted in a persistent criminal being put away for a considerable length of time.
“Hassan Ali is a prolific burglar in Barnet and I hope this gives a clear message to other Barnet burglars that they too will face a stiff sentence.”
