Syria debate at Middlesex University, Hendon
Top human rights experts will be debating the use of military action in Syria at an event organised by Middlesex University.
The university, at The Burroughs, Hendon, will be bringing Imperial College healthcare expert Anas Nader and human rights author Professor William Schabas together for the debate.
The debate, titled Syria: Humanitarian Intervention and the Crime of Agression will discuss the legality and legitimacy of the use of force against the Syrian regime.
Also taking part will be the university’s own senior human rights lecturer Dr Elvira Dominguez-Redondo.
The event will be chaired by the dean of the university's law school professor Joshua Castellino, who recently published the book Minority Rights in the Middle East.
Prof Castellino said: “The news from Syria over the last couple of years has been disastrous, but what happens over the coming weeks is likely to raise the stakes again, increasing the risk environment.
“At Thursday’s panel discussion at Middlesex University we hope to explore these issues, drawing on some of the UK’s leading in experts in international law and human rights.”
The event will also mark the launch of The Global Institute for the Prevention of Aggression at Middlesex University.
It will take place on Thursday 12 September 2013 from 1pm to 2.30pm in room CG47, at the university.
