Colindale chef takes 'Jaegermeister' burger to Simply Beef & Lamb competition
An amatuer chef cooked up a storm with his unique ‘jaegerbomb’ burger in the finals of a national competition.
Craig Osborne, a who works at Nigel Fredericks Catering Butchers, Carlisle Road, Colindale, was named a runner up at a cook offs of the Simply Beef and Lamb ‘Battle of the Burgers’ contest on Friday.
The 32-year-old said he had to “think outside the box” when coming up with his burger idea - made with gruyere cheese, energy drink Red Bull and alcoholic spirit Jaegermeister.
He said: “It sounds hideous but it’s actually really tasty. It’s all about being imaginative and knowing what flavours work well together.
“It’s a fantastic burger if I say so myself. The competition was a bit tense but it was mainly a lot of fun and a really exciting atmosphere.
“I loved every minute of it though, it was a great experience even if I didn’t win.”
During the competition, Mr Osborne had just one hour to create two of his famous burgers.
Competition was steep, and he was up against eight other contestants, including two top burger bloggers.
The red onions are soaked in red bull and the barbecue sauce is left to marinate in Jaegermeister to create the unique taste.
He submitted his burger idea to judges at Simply Beef and Lamb earlier this year, before being invited to the finals at Central Street Cookery School.
Mr Osborne, of Newton Crescent, Borehamwood, added: “I’ve known from a young age I wanted to cook - it’s what I’m passionate about.
“My fiancee, Christine, has been fantastic and she’s been eating nothing but my burgers over the last few months to give me tips.
“I’m pleased I made the finals at least and will be entering more contests in the future.”
