Resources for Autism is the first winner of The Broadwalk Shopping Centre’s £500 community fund - supported by the Times Series.
Last month, we teamed up with The Broadwalk Centre in Edgware to launch its new Community Fund Campaign, which gives local groups and charities the chance to win £500 every other month to help enhance their service.
Following a public vote which gave you, our readers, the chance to decide who deserved to be rewarded with the money, we are delighted to announce that Resources for Autism is the campaign’s first winner.
Resources for Autism aims to improve the lives of children and adults who are diagnosed with autism, wherever they are on the spectrum. They do this by providing play schemes, youth clubs and holiday clubs for children and young people aged between eight and 19.
The charity will use the £500 donation to purchase specialised equipment for the various playgroups as well as for use during its one-to-one music and art therapy sessions.
Liza Dresner, director of Resources for Autism, said: "Thank you to everyone who was kind enough to vote.
"The £500 will help us buy sensory resources for our North London-based play and youth service and to support the work our volunteers do in family homes.
"We are hugely grateful to the centre for organising the challenge and to everyone who took the time to vote. The money will make a huge difference to us.”
Angela Brooks, centre manager at The Broadwalk Centre, said: “We have been overwhelmed with the response to our Community Fund Campaign - firstly with how many groups came forward to nominate themselves but secondly, with how many people voted.
"A huge congratulations again to Resources for Autism, I hope that this money will help them continue to provide their fantastic service.”
The Broadwalk Centre has now reopened nominations and is encouraging readers to nominate a group that you feel deserves a £500 donation.
You can write to The Broadwalk Centre’s Community Fund, c/o PMW Communications, Stane Court, Stane Street, Billingshurst, West Sussex, RH14 9HP or email email@example.com
The closing date for nominations is the September 29, 2013.
