Shoppers in Edgware can help the British Heart Foundation gather one million bags of unwanted items nationwide when it launches its biggest every charity collection next week.

The organisation is holding its Great British Bag-athon at its branch in The Broadwalk shopping centre, in Station Road, on Thursday.

The Mayoress of Barnet Wendy Prentice will officially launch the appeal at 11am on Thursday, September 19, on behalf of all British Heart Foundation (BHF) shops in the area.

Volunteers will be handing out donation bags in the centre over the two coming weekends, encouraging shoppers to bring back unwanted items including clothes, books, homewares and DVDs.

Bags can be returned to the a drop-off point at the centre or any BHF store.

Donations will be sold in the shops to raise money for research into heart diseases and illnesses.
