Expelled Conservative councillor Brian Coleman roasts Tory colleagues at Barnet Council in explosive online blog, 'The King of Bling is Back'
Expelled Tory councillor Brian Coleman has come back to bite his former colleagues with an explosive online blog that reveals some dark secrets of the current administration.
The Totteridge councillor – expelled from the national Conservative Party by colleagues earlier this year - has given his views on each of the authority’s 37 Tory councillors in his blog, ‘The King of Bling is Back’.
The former mayor claims to reveal a “hushed-up” drink driving ban for one member as well as labelling various fellow councillors “lightweight”, “wet” and “sulkers”.
He describes the current cabinet a “boys” club, painting a picture of cliques, in-fighting and iron-fist oppression against members that fail to toe the party line.
The at-times cheeky blog post comes at the end of a turbulent 18 months for Councillor Coleman, a former right-hand man of London Mayor Boris Johnson.
Cllr Coleman lost his seat on the Greater London Assembly last May, was expelled from Barnet Council’s cabinet soon after, was found guilty of common assault earlier this year and was subsequently expelled from the national Conservative Party.
The controversial politician has also faced several disciplinary hearings at Barnet Council, an appeal against one of which he lost on Tuesday evening.
He recently told the Times Series he knows “where the bodies are buried” in the Barnet Conservative group and the former London Fire Authority head went on the offensive in his blog, posted today.
In it he claims council leader Richard Cornelius is “increasingly seen as a delay and dither man and is entirely ineffective”, adding that “his U-turns are becoming a weekly occurrence”.
He also attacks long-serving councillor Brian Salinger for having a “Ted Heath-like sulk” ever since losing the council and group leadership in 2006, before accusing deputy leader Dan Thomas of taking regular “exotic holidays” to “keep his tan topped up”.
Neither Councillor Coleman nor Councillor Cornelius have so far been available for comment.
