Potters Bar and Shenley's new safer neighbourhood sergeant hopes to draw on his 12 years of experience to tackle anti-social behaviour in the area.

Sgt Alistair Jones will be responsible for running a team of four neighbourhood officers and seven PCSO’s in the two areas.

Having started his career as a police constable in Hemel Hempstead in 2001, he completed the trainee investigator process and was promoted to detective sergeant in 2006.

Sgt Jones said: “I will be encouraging my team to deal proactively with crime and anti-social behaviour, as well as offering a reassuring police presence.

“No-one should have to put up with crime or anti-social behaviour and my team and I will do everything in our power to help improve residents’ quality of life.

“There’s nothing more satisfying than phoning up a victim to say an offender has been caught and they have been remanded and are likely to go to prison.”

The father-of-two warned children causing anti-social behaviour could be given ASBOs and their parents could see their tenancies revoked.

His predecessor, SgtLaura Randall, has taken up a post at Police Headquarters in Welwyn Garden City.
