A Cricklewood charity volunteer collected a National Lottery Award at a glittering awards ceremony broadcast on BBC One this week.
Ray Rowley, vice chair of the Ichthyosis Support Group (ISG), collected the award on the National Lottery Stars 2013 programme aired on Wednesday.
The group is the only registered charity in the UK supporting people with all forms of ichthyosis, a rare genetic condition affecting the skin.
It received almost 5,000 votes in this year’s competition to find the UK’s favourite Lottery-funded "good cause".
Mr Rowley and one of his daughters have ichthyosis, a potentially fatal condition affecting approximately one in 300,000 people.
Mr Rowley and ISG trustees met Ricky Tomlinson, Rod Stewart and Jason Donovan during the ceremony, hosted by entertainer John Barrowman.
Mr Rowley said: “Ichthyosis is an extremely distressing condition for both the sufferer and their families and has a huge impact on people’s lives.
“By raising awareness the ISG hopes it will help to educate and encourage more research into this rare skin condition.”
