Thieves target North Finchley Fine Art Galleries in High Road
The owner of an antique dealer that has been trading in North Finchley for 35 years says he feels "sick" after being targeted by thieves.
Sam Greenman received a phone call from police at 10.30pm on Friday telling him about the break-in at his store, Finchley Fine Art Galleries, in High Road.
Speaking to the Times Series Mr Greenman said: “I came down and saw that someone had smashed the window and forced the metal grille up and climbed in.
“I’m still in the process of assessing what was taken – it makes me feel pretty sick.”
Mr Greenman sells a variety of antiques including furniture and pictures at his store, which has remained open for business despite the theft.
He added: “I’ve been here for 35 years now and this has never happened before. It’s stressful and expensive and I just wish it had never happened.”
Mr Greenman believes the large glass frontage had not been replaced since the building was first built approximately 100 years ago, and therefore was easy to break.
In order to deter other would-be thieves targeting his store he plans to install a thicker, non-breakable glass.
