Martin Primary School prepares to celebrate centenary
An East Finchley school is inviting former pupils and staff to celebrate its centenary year.
Martin Primary School in Plane Tree Walk will host two parties to mark its landmark birthday next month.
Current pupils will greet the school’s alumni at a tea party on Monday, October 7 from 2-4pm and a reunion party will also be held on Friday, October 11 from 7.30-10.30pm for people over 18 years old.
At the latter event Deputy Headteacher John Pickering will give tours of the school which was officially opened in 1913.
Guests will also have the chance to catch up with old school friends and visit their former classrooms.
Mr Pickering, who is also celebrating his 25th year at the school, said: “This is something I’ve been looking forward to for a long time.
“We have always thought of the school as a hub of the community and we really want to spread the word about our centenary and bring as many people together as possible."
Leading up to the event, pupils have been busy learning about their school's history.
Cathy du Vergier, a parent governor of Martin Primary, said: “We’ve spent the whole year doing different activities with the children to get them ready for the big event. They’ve studied the different decades and looked back at old photographs. We wanted to make it really exciting for them and now they can’t wait.”
