A man who forced his pregnant girlfriend to take pills to cause a miscarriage has been jailed for six years.

Ahmed Raofi, of Whitchurch Avenue, Edgware, gave the woman medication against her will to abort her unborn child.

The 27-year-old pleaded guilty to administering a substance to a woman to cause a miscarriage and was sentenced at Blackfriars Crown Court on Friday, September 20.

His 39-year-old girlfriend lost her unborn baby within 24 hours of being given the drugs on April 9, 2013 at an address in Islington.

She was too ashamed to admit what happened to the doctors - but confided in a midwife after she was discharged.

Raofi was arrested on Friday, April 12 and charged the following day.

Detective Constable Aroon Rashid, of Islington Community Safety Unit, said: "I hope this conviction would encourage anyone who has been through a similar experience to contact police and have faith that we will deliver them justice."
