An 11-year-old boy remains in a critical condition in hospital after he was hit by a car outside Barnet FC's stadium.

The high school student was struck by a grey Ford Focus near The Hive, in Camrose Avenue, Edgware, shortly before 3.30pm yesterday.

Paramedics treated the boy at the scene before he was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital with head and chest injuries.

Police said today he remains in a critical condition and his next of kin have been informed.

The female driver of the car stopped at the scene but was not arrested.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police’s traffic unit are continuing to investigate the incident.

Camrose Avenue was closed in both directions at the juntion with Shaldon Road after the collision.

The cordon affected Barnet FC fans travelling to the team's evening home game against Macclesfield Town and public bus services were put on diversion.
