Barnet Borough Council brings recycling deal with North London Waste Authority forward
Politicians have been forced to bring a recycling deal forward after failing to find a cheaper option.
Barnet Borough Council was due to sign a contract with the North London Waste Authority in 2015, in the hopes of finding a better financial deal until then.
The authority had until October 7 to agree on a contract with another provider - but when it failed to find a suitable alternative, there were fears there could be nowhere for the millions of tonnes of recycling to go.
But at a cabinet meeting last night, councillors agreed to move the original deal forward.
A Barnet Council spokeswoman said: “It was always the plan for all our recycling to go to the NWLA anyway, but we were looking to see if we could find a cheaper option in the short term.
“We sent out out to market but when we didn’t find a better option, we did what we had originally intended to do.”
