Playground at Woodridge School, Finchley, opened by Blue Peter gardener Chris Collins
Children's faces lit up when a Blue Peter gardener visited their new playground to officially open it.
Pupils from Woodridge Primary School, Southover, North Finchley, met TV star Chris Collins at the ceremony on Thursday.
The new playground features chalk boards, a sensory garden, a climbing frame, a giant chess set, climbing rocks and and amphitheatre.
Mr Collins, who has worked on the children's programme since 2004, gave each pupil a bottle of bubbles to blow as he cut the ribbon of the new play area.
He then gave a short talk on gardening before being given a tour around the school, where children showed him the flowers and vegetables they have been planting themselves.
Headteacher Val Phillips said: “It was a really lovely afternoon and the children were very excited by the whole day.
“It’s absolutely important children are stimulated through play - they have long playtimes and this helps them spend it in a productive way. “It was enjoyed by everyone and a great way to officially open the play area.”
Barnet borough councillor Alison Cornelius also attended the event.
The school secured a £10,000 lottery grant for the new play area earlier this year, and the PTA raised a further £15,000.
