Lion King performer from Hadley Wood piloting creative industries scheme
An actor from Hadley Wood who played Simba in the West End production of The Lion King has been handed a grant to inspire the next generation in the creative industries.
Channon Zhangazha was given £300 through o2’s Think Big scheme to pilot his own initiative entitled The Elect Creative.
The programme, open to students aged between 15 and 18, will be led by leaders in creative industries who can give advice, tips and insight into the jobs available.
The o2 grant will pay for three, one-hour workshops, which are expected to be attended by about 100 children in north London schools.
Channon, 23, said: “There are so many young people out there who have bags of potential, but don’t have the opportunity to show it or speak to the right people.
“It feels amazing to have a voice in the creative industry – ultimately I’d love to set it up into a viable social enterprise so it’s brilliant to say O2 is involved.
“This funding means that the scheme isn’t a pipe dream anymore, which is so exciting and I can’t wait to get started.”
