Contractor SSI Schaefer 'on target' to deliver final Barnet Council recycling bins today
A contractor responsible for distributing thousands of new recycling bins to homes across Barnet “should now be on target” to complete the deliveries today.
SSI Schaefer is facing financial penalties for failing to deliver more than 11,000 recycling containers before Monday’s deadlines, when Barnet Council’s new in-house system was introduced.
Yesterday, the cabinet member overseeing the switch said he was “apoplectic” with the logistics firm when it emerged it still had 5,000 bins to deliver to homes that have a Friday collection.
Barnet Council said this morning it expected the final bins to be delivered today, hours before the first collections take place, after 3,500 more were distributed in the past 24 hours.
A council spokesman said: “They should now be on target. There are still 1,500 to be delivered but everyone should have a bin ahead of their first collection.
“We will wait for these bins to be delivered and then look at the possible financial penalties for the firm.”
