A 17-year-old boy was rushed to a major trauma centre after he was hit by a car on a dual carriageway this morning.

The teenager was struck by a red Nissan Micra on the northbound side of the A1 Great North Way, at the junction with Tenterden Drive, shortly after 7.30am.

He was rushed to the specialist unit at St Mary’s Hospital in central London suffering head, leg and pelvic injuries.

The London Ambulance Service sent one fast response car and one ambulance to the scene, where police are continuing their investigation.

A stretch of the A1 between the North Circular Road and Parsons Street has been closed since 8am.
