Essex Park Community Pre-School gets into the spirit of Diwali
Toddlers got into the festival spirit when a north Indian dancer showed them how to do the “dance of happiness” in preparation for Diwali.
Children at Essex Park Community Pre-School in Finchley dressed up in traditional Indian costumes as they welcomed Kathak dancer Mukti Shri yesterday.
Mukti performed dances including the “dance of happiness” before encouraging the children to join in.
She said: "There are many occasions in life when we become happy and the best way to express it is through dance.”
Nicky Reynolds, manager at the school, said: “The children were enthralled by her graceful movements and watched, entranced. Then Mukti invited the children to join her. Inspired by what they had seen, they had great fun trying to emulate Mukti.”
The event formed part of the school’s celebrations ahead of Mukti, the festival of lights, on Sunday, November 3.
