Fun run at Brunswick Park Primary School raises cash for Youth Sports Trust
It was a sports day with a big difference at Brunswick Park Primary and Nursery School as staff and pupils got involved in a fun run to raise money for the Youth Sports Trust.
Children ran one of three different distances on a course at Brunswick Park playing fields behind the school.
Jamie Reisman, a Year 2 teacher at the school, was one of the organisers.
He explained: “I’ve been in touch with the Youth Sports Trust because I’m going to run the London Marathon for them in April next year. At the school, we’re doing a scheme called Lead the Way which is aimed to get the pupils fit and make positive choices. We linked the two together.”
A total of 60 children from Year 1 ran on the shortest course of 1km. 90 children from Year 2 ran on the 2.2 km course and after the lunch break, 90 children from Years 4 to 6 ran on the 3.5 km course.
The runners were encouraged to wear fancy dress but the morning rain put paid to that idea. “We’ll hold an event in the summer,” Mr Reisman said.
Family and friends were encouraged to sponsor the runners to raeach the £1,000 target amount.
Mr Reisman said: “They were very generous. One child in Year 1 is just five years old and he raised £136.”
