Squatters occupying The Bohemia pub in North Finchley due at Barnet County Court
Squatters occupying The Bohemia pub in North Finchley will appear in court this morning to face eviction proceedings.
The squatters, who previously occupied the Friern Barnet Library for five months, say they are hoping to have the hearing adjourned so they can negotiate with the building’s administrators.
Up to ten people gained access to the closed pub in September and have since reopened the building to the community, organising a series of activities and workshops.
But last week, despite “positive” talks with the buildings owners Mitchells and Butlers and the property agent Colliers, the group was issued with a court summons.
They will this morning return to Barnet County Court in Finchley, where they sucessfully negotiated a deal with Barnet Council over Friern Barnet Library, to fight their case to stay in the pub.
The squatters had been discussing submitting a community bid for the popular pub, towards which members of the public have already pledged a total of £26,000.
Group leader Pete Phoenix told the Times Series this morning he was hopeful of negotiating with the building’s owners.
He said: “We’ve had no discussions with them yet but we’re hoping to get it thrown out of court or adjourned today so we can get mediation going.”
