St James' Catholic High School pupils take part in battle of the bands contest at the Roundhouse
A school band from Colindale went head to head with young musicians from across London in a battle of the bands competition.
Representing St James’ Catholic High School and Barnet Music Hub, Next Time Natalie performed in the Band Slam at Camden rock venue, the Roundhouse, on Saturday night.
Jordan MacPhee-Torres, Stephen Kelly, Jake Marshall and Christopher Kenny battled it out with rival under 18 year olds for the 2013 Roundhouse Band Slam title.
Next Time Natalie opted to play two original numbers with Jordan fronting the band.
They were cheered on by their classmates and Richard Sellek, head of performing arts at St James’.
Mr Sellek said: ‘This was not safe school band stuff – this was raw rock and roll – fast, daring and dangerous.”
Desite their best efforts, the judges selected a guitar and maraca duo as the night’s winners– but the band all acknowledged the “great learning experience” they gained from the performance.
