Two police officers were shot at after stopping a car carrying a suspected kidnap victim in Edgware.
Officers attempted to stop a silver Peugeot 307 driving southbound on the M1 near to Junction four at 12pm on Saturday.
The car failed to pull over and came off the motorway before eventually coming to a halt in Broadhurst Avenue in Edgware.
Two men got out of the car and fired a number of shots from a small handgun at police officers before fleeing the scene.
Meanwhile a third male, who is believed to have been kidnapped, was found inside the vehicle. He was not injured.
Yesterday afternoon police arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of kidnap and fire arm offences.
Officers are still trying to trace the second suspect who is described as a black man. No further description has been given at this time.
