A birthday card designed by late singer Amy Winehouse when she was just 12-years-old will help raise money for charity.

Janis Winehouse, of East Barnet, has donated the card to the multiple sclerosis society to help mark the charity’s 60th birthday.

It will be auctioned to the highest bidder on website E-Bay to raise awareness about the disease and its symptoms.

Amy, famous for hits including Rehab and Back to Black, died when she was 27 after drinking so much alcohol she stopped breathing.

Her mother, who was diagnosed with MS 30 years ago, said: “Amy drew this picture of me when she was just 12 in French class.

“We’ve waited until now to make it public. I wanted to use it for something special and the society’s work is incredibly important to me.

“I’m sure Amy would be happy for me to donate it to the card’s for a cause action and I hope it raises vital money for the charity’s amazing research.”

Money raised from the auction will go towards the charity’s research programme.

Symptoms of the disease include vision problems, pins and needles, loss of balance and spasms and can get worse throughout life.

Other celebrities have also designed cards for the campaign, including  actor Roger Moore.

Michelle Mitchell, chief executive of the MS Society, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to all the celebrities and famous names who’ve taken the time to design a card for the MS Society’s Cards for a Cause auction.

“Every penny raised will go towards our innovative research programme. While we strive for a cure for MS we are also funding studies to slow or halt the progression of the condition as well as improving the quality of life of people affected by MS.”
