A pensioner from Hendon who sexually assaulted a woman while travelling on the Tube on Valentine’s Day has been placed on the sex offenders register.
Mohammed Karim, 68, of Marriotts Close, was caught red-handed by plain clothes British Transport Police officers onboard a westbound Piccadilly line train earlier this year.
Officers noticed Karim acting suspiciously at Green Park station where they followed him on to a train.
He did not appear to approach any passengers so the officers left the service.
But, when Karim was seen on the same platform at Green Park a short while later, officers watched him move behind a female passenger and board a train.
Once again they followed him onto the Tube and this time during the journey they witnessed him inappropriately touch a 27-year-old woman.
Karim was immediately arrested at South Kensington station. He denied the charge but was found guilty following a trial.
He appeared at City of London Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, November 21, where he was sentenced to six months in prison suspended for 24 months.
He was also handed a supervision order, a two year exclusion order banning him from the London Underground network and was placed on the sex offenders register for seven years.
PC Alban Barnes said: “This was an intimidating and very upsetting experience for the victim and I’d like to commend her for assisting officers at every stage, which was vital to securing the conviction of Mohammed Karim.”
