Despite lengthy negotiations, a GP practice has returned to Brunswick Park Health Centre after signing a new lease.

The centre in Brunswick Park Road sat empty since it was refurbished following a fire in 2010 as tenant, Doctor Stella Okonkwo fell into dispute over rent with NHS England.

However, Dr Okonkwo has now signed a lease with NHS Property Services to reoccupy part of the centre.

The Total Healthcare Practice will provide primary care services from three clinical examination rooms.

Tony Griffiths, NHS Property Services regional director for London, said: “We have been in close discussion with the Total Health Care Practice while seeking to reach an agreement that would provide the best possible service for the people of Brunswick Park, as well as being good value for the NHS and the taxpayer.

“We are delighted that the Total Health Care Practice has signed the lease and will be able to take occupation of the building in the very near future.”

MP for Chipping Barnet, Theresa Villiers, has welcomed the decision. She said: “I have fought a three year campaign to get the medical centre refurbished and re-opened. I am delighted that this has now happened.

"It has been a source of frustration to my constituents that this has taken so long but local Conservative ward councillors and I have worked hard to get this issue resolved, alongside the East Barnet Residents Association."
