People from all walks of life have had their achievements recognized in the 2014 New Year Honours list.

Barrie Robert Martin, chair of governors at Queen Elizabeth’s School, was made an MBE for services to education.

Alison Margaret Peacock, headteacher at Wroxham Primary School, in Potters Bar, was also given the honour for services to education.  

Lady Patrica Marina Hobson, who already has a MBE, is now an officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to ballet and philanthropy.

And actress Lynda Bellingham, of New Southgate, has been recognised for her services to charitable giving in the UK.

Also recognised was David Alan Bernstein, the chair of the Football Association, for his services to football.

Berenice Shelley Gilbert, from Whetstone, was given a British Empire Medal for services to bereaved children and their families.

The 56-year-old launched the charity Grief Encounter Project in 2003, to help families dealing with a loss.

She has also published a book to help adults and children discuss bereavement issues and offers counselling in groups or in one-on-one sessions.
