Scouts from Barnet joined 3,000 others for an action packed annual winter camp in north London.

Boys and girls from the Hendon, North Finchley and Friern Barnet units enjoyed activities including abseiling, zorbing, go-karting and white water rafting at the Gilwell Park camp site in west Essex.

Nearly 1,000 voluntary adult leaders accompanied the Scouts, aged between 10 and 18, for the two night trip, during which they stayed in tents and cooked on open fires.

Jack, aged 11 from the 8th Hendon Scouts, said: “It is an exciting experience to be part of. It is totally different from anything I’ve done in Scouting before. I couldn’t be happier.”

Andy Gaul, an adult volunteer Scout leader from the 6th Friern Barnet Scout Group, said: “I had a great taking part in all the adventurous activities with thousands of enthusiastic young people.

“As an adult in Scouting, I always have an absolutely fantastic time getting stuck in with all the activities on offer, which the young people wouldn’t have the opportunity to experience otherwise. So if you fancy it and want to meet some inspirational people, then why not give Scouting a try?”

Barnet Scouts are looking for more adult volunteers. If you or your child would like to get involved, call 07812 383890, email jointheadventure@gln-scouts.org.uk or go to scouts.org.uk/get-involved to find your nearest group.
