A developer will resubmit plans to build a “well wanted and well needed” golf course in a farm.

Businessman Tony Menai-Davis withdrew his application for The Dye London Golf Club, in Edgwarebury Lane, Edgware, on Thursday.

The proposed club sits on a 1,200-year-old farm, which ramblers have dubbed an “urban oasis”.

More than 2,000 have signed a petition against the application, and Barnet Borough Council and the Greater London Authority asked Mr Menai-Davis to submit further information about the plans before they could approve it.

A statement from developers Bridgedown Ltd said: “Following requests from the council and in response to the constructive correspondence received from the GLA, Bridgedown’s team will be preparing a number of computer-generated images.

“These will be from publicly accessible viewpoints and from the proposed permissive bridleway, the locations of which have been agreed with the council, and will illustrate how the proposed golf course, clubhouse and car park will look from these points.”

Mr Menai-Davis, who owns The Shire Golf Club, in St Albans Road, Barnet, and Bridgedown Ltd will also submit an ecology, an energy statement and a framework construction management plan.

He said: “People want to play on top quality courses, which we can offer here. Business at The Shire is fantastic and I know this is a well-wanted, well-needed.”
