There were confrontational scenes as UKIP gatecrashed a public debate from which they were deliberately excluded this evening.

The anti-EU party's prospective Hendon candidate Adrian Murray-Leonard loudly interrupted the start of the event hosted by left-wing campaign group the Barnet Alliance for Public Services (BAPS) at The Larches hall in Edgware.

(Warning: This video contains some strong language)

The 52-year-old stood up and demanded to know why he was refused a place on the panel, to which representatives from Labour, the  Liberal Democrats, the Green Party and the Conservatives were all invited.

BAPS said earlier this week its committee had made a “democratic decision” to exclude the party because it did not agree with its “racist” policies, adding that the Barnet branch, founded in November, had not been active enough locally.

Mr Murray-Leonard described the ban as “undemocratic and crass” but the war of words looked on the verge of breaking out into physical violence this evening during angry scenes at the start of the 7pm meeting.

UKIP told the Times Series this afternoon it expected a “rent-a-mob” to gatecrash the meeting after support was voiced from other party branches.

But it was the lone figure of Mr Murray-Leonard who shouted down BAPS chairman Ruth Kutner as she introduced the panel, announcing that the meeting was “a joke” and “undemocratic” in the face of heckling from the audience.

Ms Jacobson explained that the panel was for “people who have been involved in and shown their face in Barnet politics for several years”.

And when Mr Murray-Leonard refused to leave, an audience member, who claimed to be in charge of security, told the UKIP representative to get out, as expletives and heckles began to drown out his protests.

The fracas spilled into the foyer of the hall, where BAPS supporters continued to swear at Mr Murray-Leonard, who repeatedly described the meeting as a joke.

The confrontation was watched by Barnet’s UKIP chairman Chris Apostolou, who at one stage moved to urge his party colleague to leave before retaking his seat in the audience.

Barnet’s Conservative Party declined to send a representative to tonight’s meeting, reportedly due to their belief the panel and audience would be biased.

BAPS appointed two of its own members to the panel – meeting chairman Ruth Kutner and group chairman Barabara Jacobson – as well as loyal BAPS supporter and left-wing blogger Theresa Musgrove, who posts online under the guise of 'Mrs Angry'.

Labour was represented by group leader Alison Moore, while the Liberal Democrats and the Green Party were represented by stalwart councillor Jack Cohen and council candidate Andrew Newby respectively.

Clearly shows other parties are worried of the rise in support for UKIP. How can a meeting, funded by tax payers, with public funded employees exclude what is a legal political party which fights for the rights of the people of England be excluded from this meeting, and yet a hippy looser from occupy London is invited. The left wing liberals know they are in real struggle to remain a 3rd choice party with UKIP on the rise. UKIP isn't racist! Vote UKIP, give your children a right to a decent future instead of a collapsing NHS, benefits pouring out of this country and low paid workers flooding the UK job market.

As I said on Friday, Phil Fletcher has still not come up with any evidence to substantiate his defamatory slur that UKIP is a racist party, nor has he apologised for his vile remark, It just goes to show that LibLabCon are running scared, afraid to have their snouts kicked out of the trough or being booted off the gravy train, proven they cannot debate policies as they haven't any that protect the UK electorate from the EU, rather preferring to throw unsubstantiated slur and act totally undemocratically to intimidate the electorate, they need mortally wounding in GE2015.

As the camera man in this clip rightly points out, all 6 of the BAPS members regularly attend council meetings and spend the whole time shouting out and interrupting like spoilt children. It means that the rest of us cannot hear what's being said. Interesting to see how hypocritically this dissonant group of bloggers and squatters reacts to the same being done to their own "meeting"!
Thank g-d these people aren't involved in any real policy making!

After reading this report and watching the video, nothing could persuade me to vote for Mr Murray-Leonard.
But BAPS does't come out of this fiasco very well either. How can it claim on its website to be "non-party political" when it bans a legitimate political party from its meetings?

Well you may think you talk common sense, your leader apparently doesn't seem to agree
"Nigel Farage disowns all of Ukip’s 2010 manifesto policies"
Headline from The Spectator.
"Farage did his best to disown anything the party stood for at the last general election."
Extract from the same article
This is my favourite
"Farage was also asked whether it was still Ukip policy to introduce a compulsory dress code for taxi drivers. His response — ‘Do we? That’s news to me’ "
If anybody needs reminding The Spectator is as far removed as you can get from "traitorous lefty thugs"

The rant by "A Free Englishman" is hilarious. I love the bizarre punctuation in some places and the complete lack of punctuation in other places, as well as his failure to correct his text before posting it, so that it includes errors such as "Let face facts", "They has suffered" and "time for them top all be deported".
But I am nevertheless pleased to see the publication of his ludicrous diatribe, since it will no doubt put people off voting for the pitiful party supported by such dim-witted imbeciles.

Average Barnet Resident/ Tory councillor, and Chris Hewitt: I am not a member of Barnet Alliance, loyal or otherwise, (although I realise fact checking is not of much interest to any of the parties here). It is up to Barnet Alliance to invite whosoever they like to their own events - and for all those of you who are whinging about the so called lefty 'bias', the reason is because our Tory councillors are too scared to defend their own policies in public, and engage with voters who might challenge their record of incompetence.

I would have been happy to have UKIP on the panel, providing they were willing to discuss issues in an adult manner, and without being offensive - and said so when this was being debated, but as I have already commented, it was a decision by Barnet Alliance, and entirely up to them.

That said, some of the puerile remarks by UKIP sympathisers here only serves to underline why some people are reluctant to engage with them.

The decision by Barnet Alliance to exclude UKIP from their debate, along with branding them 'racist ' (the most over used word in the English language) simply underlines how anxious the main parties are to deny them the opportunity to tell the public why they should vote for them. One only has to watch the Left wing driven BBC programme Question Time, to see the same principle illustrated on a much larger scale. Despite insidious tactics such as these, UKIP is rapidly gaining in popularity, and will continue to do so while these self-serving organisations persistently display their all too obvious deceit.
