A man has been sentenced to 120 hours' unpaid work after he fradulenty claimed more than £10,000 in housing benefit.
Lee Goodrum, 44, moved from Honeywood Close, Potters Bar to London Road, Shenley in 2009 without informing Hertsmere Borough Council.
He dishonestly claimed £10,949.04 in benefits for the Potters Bar address until he was detected by the council’s anti-fraud unit.
Goodman pleaded guilty in December and was sentenced on January 17 at St Albans Magistrates Court to a 12-month community order of 180 hours' unpaid work, reduced to 120 because he admitted guilt.
He was also ordered to pay £100 costs and £60 victim surcharge.
Cllr John Graham, who is responsible for finance at the authority, said: "Hopefully this sentencing sends out a clear message that offences will be detected and that the council's anti-fraud unit will rigorously pursue offenders.
“Benefits are there for those who really need them and we will be tough on those who cheat the system."
